THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday reminded candidates in the 2025 midterm elections to comply with regulations on billboards and other promotional materials.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said in a media briefing that billboards and other campaign materials must be taken down at least two days before the official start of the campaign period, which is Jan. 12, 2025.

“The campaign period is meant to level the playing field. We want to ensure that all candidates follow the rules, especially when it comes to the use of campaign materials that could create an unfair advantage before the official start,” Garcia said.

He added that failure to comply could result in severe penalties, including disqualification from the electoral race.

Garcia said that election law dictates that all forms of campaigning, such as posters, billboards, flyers, and other promotional materials, can only be displayed once the campaign period officially begins in mid-February 2025.
