SAAVEDRA-LED property developer Megawide Construction Corp. said Thursday that it had received a notice of award for the P1.87-billion Cavite bus rapid transit (BRT) project together with Maplecrest Group Inc.
Megawide told the stock exchange that the notice, dated Dec. 26, 2024, was received on Wednesday. It stated that Megawide and Maplecrest Group had been selected as the private sector proponents of the project and were awarded a joint venture agreement for its implementation.
“The award is subject to the private sector proponents fulfilling all necessary conditions and submitting required documentation,” Megawide also said.
The project, which is under the government’s public-private partnership (PPP) program, involves the establishment of a 42-kilometer (km) bus rapid transit system traversing the cities and municipalities of Cavite and providing a link to Metro Manila via the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).
The scope of the project includes the development, financing, design, operation and maintenance of a BRT and point-to-point (P2P) route, with the goal of providing a means of transportation within Kawit, Imus, General Trias, Tanza and Trece Martires, while the P2P system will provide a link to Metro Manila via PITx.
To be developed in two phases, the Cavite BRT will have a total of 37 stations and three terminals.
The first phase includes the construction of Terminals 1 and 2, a 15-km BRT alignment for 27 stations and a 26.5-km (from PITX to terminal 2) route, targeted to be operational in 2026.
The second phase, targeted to open 10 years after the first phase, will include the addition of Terminal 3 and another 20 stations, equivalent to 13.79 kms, covering Station 27 to the New Capitol Building of Cavite and an alignment of 34.11 kms from PITX to Terminal 3.
Megawide shares closed up 2.08 percent at P2.45 each on Thursday.
