(UPDATE) PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will have a virtual meeting with United States President Joe Biden and Japan Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru this weekend, Malacañang confirmed on Thursday.

“We can confirm that this is in the calendar of PBBM on January 12, Sunday,” acting Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cesar Chavez said in a text message to reporters. “They call it a Trilateral Phone Call.”

The palace official, however, did not disclose the exact time the meeting will take place or what matters will be discussed by the three leaders.

A high-level US-Philippines-Japan meeting was held in Washington, D.C., in April last year, where Biden, Marcos, and then Japanese PM Fumio Kishida discussed several issues, including enhancing extensive coordination to promote maritime domain awareness and deepen cooperation on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
