“By expanding our presence in this growing region, the SEC continues to show its commitment to further improving the ease of doing business in the Philippines.”
MANILA, Philippines — The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) continues to expand its footprint to provide businesses with greater access to its services.
The commission has opened a new extension office in Laoag City to strengthen its regulatory oversight and support the economic growth in northern Philippines.
“We are starting the new year right with the opening of the commission’s 14th extension office,” SEC chairperson Emilio Aquino said.
“Through the SEC Laoag extension office, we seek to create an environment that will encourage businesses to incorporate, enabling them to take part in driving the robust economic growth of the Ilocos region,” he said.
The new extension office will ensure the timely and efficient delivery of services by accommodating the registration, compliance processes and other SEC-related transactions of businesses across Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan.
According to the SEC, the Ilocos region is home to a total of 12,463 registered corporations as of November last year.
The office will also facilitate the commission’s investor protection and education programs to safeguard businesses against scams and other fraudulent schemes.
The SEC said that the latest extension office would allow foster partnerships with local government units and stakeholders to more effectively promote the commission’s programs.
“By expanding our presence in this growing region, the SEC continues to show its commitment to further improving the ease of doing business in the Philippines,” Aquino said.
The new SEC Laoag extension office brings the commission’s regional offices to 14.
Last year, the corporate regulator opened three offices in Butuan, Koronadal and Lipa.
