A 50-year-old man was arrested in Tondo, Manila, for allegedly blackmailing a 19-year-old teenager using compromising photos and videos.

According to a report by Jun Veneracion on 24 Oras Tuesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) stated that the victim initially met the suspect online and engaged in sexual relations with him. However, when she refused to meet him again, he resorted to blackmail.

“Noong time na ayaw na makipagkita sa kanya ng victim, nag-umpisa na po ang suspek na mag blackmail sa victim gamit ang mga photos and videos with explicit content ng victim,” said PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group Spokesperson Police Lieutenant Wallen Arancillo.

(When the victim no longer wanted to meet with him, the suspect started blackmailing her using explicit photos and videos of her.)

The suspect reportedly sent the explicit content to the victim’s friends and family, further escalating the situation.

He is now facing charges of Grave Coercion and violations of the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act.

“Okay lang po [na nahuli ako], kasi alam ko meron akong ginawang kasalanan,” said the suspect.

(I understand why I was arrested because I know I did something wrong.)

The PNP-ACG has expressed concern over the growing number of cases related to the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act, which ranks second only to cyberlibel among crimes they handle.

In 2024, the group recorded 347 such incidents, and 10 more cases have already been reported in the first few days of 2025.

“Nakikita po natin na alarming po ito. Since from 2023 to 2024, hindi po bumaba ang cases ng Anti-photo and Voyeurism Act,” said Arancillo.

(This trend is alarming. From 2023 to 2024, the number of Anti-Photo and Voyeurism Act cases has not decreased,) — Jiselle Anne Casucian/DVM, GMA Integrated News
