The Valenzuela City local government destroyed over 100 weighing scales deemed defective, uncalibrated, and unsealed.

In Bernadette Reyes’ Wednesday report on “24 Oras,” the defective weighing scales were destroyed at Karuhatan Public Market, where an inspection was also conducted.

Consumers like Teresa Batuyas used the Timbangan ng Bayan Center to check the accuracy of the weight and the quantity of the goods they bought.

The city government warned that sellers who use uncalibrated and unsealed weighing scales will be penalized P5,000 to P15,000 and their business license may also be revoked.

The Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau of the Department of Trade and Industry said the public may report defective weighing scales to their office or to the local government unit. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
