EDUCATION Secretary Sonny Angara said the Department of Education (DepEd) was ready to discuss with stakeholders concerns over the implementation of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE).

Angara issued the statement after the National Coalition for the Family and the Constitution (NCFC) said the curriculum was not aligned with Filipino culture and could “hypersexualize” children at a young age.

Former chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno said the CSE, which is being promoted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, United Nations Population Fund and the United Nations Children’s Fund, would make sex “transactional.”

“It would replace the Filipino values system with a very secular, anti-god ideology,” Sereno said in an NCFC video presentation.

Angara said that the implementation of CSE was backed by data on teenage pregnancy, HIV and gender-based violence.

“We are actively collaborating with various stakeholders, including health service providers and community organizations, to ensure that our programs are effective and culturally sensitive. Our efforts include exploring models from our communities and other countries,” Angara said.

“Together, we can create an environment that fosters understanding, respect, and our youth’s well-being. We invite all parties to work alongside us as we navigate this important journey,” he added.
