MANILA, Philippines — Gross sales for the golden edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival reached its P800-million target, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

The MMDA is the governing body of the festival.

MMDA Chairman and concurrent MMFF overall Chairman Romando Don Artes said in a post on Facebook that the festival “has leveled up the standards of the annual festival” in terms of quality of entries, inclusivity, the revival of the Student Short Film Festival with the FDCP, education, promotions, subsidy for block screenings and talk back sessions, even the trophy, the awards, the parade and the general conduct of activities.

The MMDA also announced the edition’s top three based on gross sales receipts, although they did not disclose the specific rankings.

Listed in alphabetical order, the top three are “And The Breadwinner Is,” “Green Bones” and “The Kingdom.”

In a separate confirmation, Star Cinema revealed that the Vice Ganda-led “And The Breadwinner Is” has earned over P400 million as of Jan. 15. “Green Bones” and “The Kingdom” have yet to announce their gross sales.

“We did our best to give the public the best edition of the MMFF for its Golden Year. There are lessons to be learned, but we acknowledge the great effort and sacrifice given by the ones who were part of this milestone festival,” Artes said in a statement.

“It was a success as it upped the standards from the previous MMFFs, and by saying so, we redefined our indicators beyond box office returns, which is worthy of another study, moving forward,” he said.

This year’s predecessor, MMFF’s 49th edition that premiered in 2023, made box-office records when it reached P1.069 billion gross receipts towards the end of its initial two-week run.
