Carmen Tan marked a significant milestone as she celebrated her 70th birthday with a joyous gathering at Gloria Maris Shark’s Fin Restaurant in Greenhills. It was a night filled with warmth, laughter, music and heartfelt tributes — a true celebration of a life well-lived and friendships deeply cherished.
The evening began on a high note as Manuel Victorio graciously escorted the radiant celebrant to the stage to formally commence the festivities. Leonida Bayani Ortiz led a solemn invocation, setting a meaningful tone for the evening, followed by Robert Castaneda, who offered a heartfelt toast. He spoke of Carmen’s generous heart, her strength, and the lasting friendships she has built over the years.
A sumptuous Chinese lauriat feast was served in abundance, delighting everyone’s palates. As guests enjoyed their meals, live musical entertainment by the talented Marcy David Sr. Band created a festive and elegant ambiance throughout the evening.
The program was delightfully hosted by the ever-charismatic Chuck T. Gueco, who, along with his equally engaging co-host Ken Santos, kept the energy high and the spirits lively. The hosts invited some of Carmen’s dearest friends — Nona Ricafort, Bing N. Carrion, Cynthia Romero Mamon, Nelia Sarcol, Ricardo Pama and this writer — to come forward and share heartfelt messages of love, admiration and fond memories.

One of the evening’s highlights came when Carmen took center stage to blow out the candles on her two grand birthday cakes — flanked by several other beautifully crafted cakes — while the crowd joined in a rousing chorus of “Happy Birthday,” accompanied on the organ by Marcy David.
Adding to the charm of the evening, Emmy Florentino Gonzalez, Arjay Espartero, Minda Javier Pama, Bernz Dugang Caramba, Nissa Quiazon and Cynthia Mamon serenaded Carmen with heartfelt songs, drawing warm applause from the audience. But the most unforgettable moment came when Carmen herself surprised everyone with an impromptu dance performance.
May each new day bring you peace, laughter and more reasons to celebrate the incredible woman that you are. Happy birthday, Carmen!
