ABOITIZ Power Corp. (AboitizPower) is ramping up its investments in smart energy infrastructure with the upcoming construction of a 30-megawatt (MW) hybrid battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Mactan Economic Zone.
AboitizPower said that wholly owned subsidiary East Asia Utilities Corp. (EAUC) under Therma Power Inc. would break ground for the hybrid BESS project, which is targeted for commissioning by the first half of 2026.
“This project will allow us to respond to imbalances in real-time, helping the grid absorb fluctuations and minimize disruptions,” said Aldo Ramos, chief operating officer of the AboitizPower Transition Business Group.
The battery system will store surplus electricity and release it to the grid when needed, functioning as an ancillary service that supports grid reliability, especially as more variable renewable energy sources are integrated.
The project was approved by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority in January 2025.
In another development, AboitizPower told the stock exchange on Tuesday that the Philippine Dealing and Exchange Corp. had approved the listing of the first tranche of a fixed-rate retail bond offer under a P100-billion shelf registration.
The initial offering covered up to P20 billion worth of bonds with an oversubscription option of up to P10 billion. The offer period ran from June 26 to July 4 and the bonds were supposed to be listed on Tuesday.
AboitizPower shares rose by P1.05, or 2.56 percent, to P42 apiece on Monday.
