MANILA, Philippines —  Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has teamed up with two leading Vietnamese green mobility players to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption in the Philippines.

Meralco has signed a memorandum of understanding with V-Green Global Charging Station Development Corp. and Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Co. (Green GSM) to roll out EV infrastructure in Metro Manila and other major cities.

V-Green develops EV charging networks, while Green GSM is the first all-electric ride-hailing company in Vietnam.

Under the partnership, the parties will assess sites for EV charging stations and electric taxi hubs and explore opportunities to expand the country’s green mobility push.

The agreement will likewise facilitate technical cooperation and knowledge exchange on EV technologies and system design.

Meralco chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said the parties would leverage their combined expertise in infrastructure and technology to revolutionize energy, transport and sustainability.

“We are committed to helping build this ecosystem – one that is future-ready, inclusive and grounded in service. We want Filipinos to experience the future of transport, not just in Metro Manila but across the archipelago,” Pangilinan said.

As the country’s largest power utility, Meralco is committed to deploying integrated EV and charging infrastructure for businesses and the public in support of the goals of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act.

“Together with VinFast and Green GSM, we are proud to contribute to a comprehensive EV ecosystem that supports the country’s journey towards a cleaner and more sustainable future,” V-Green CEO Nguyen Thanh Duong said.

Vinfast, another Vietnamese automotive company, V-Green and Green GSM have since expanded in the Philippines to provide green mobility solutions.

These solutions span EV distribution, charging infrastructure development and electric taxi operations.

“The Philippines is a vibrant and fast-growing market where we see strong momentum for clean mobility solutions,” Green GSM Philippines CEO Dao Quy Phi said, citing plans to expand the firm’s services to more cities nationwide.

“Our goal is not only to provide safe, convenient and affordable transportation but also to play an active role in building a greener future for Filipino communities,” he said.
