MANILA, Philippines — Actress-singer Nadine Lustre called out a social media post claiming she ignores people who ignore her as fake, then gave her own explanation how she’d respond to such situations.
Nadine reposted on her social media accounts a quote card that claimed the actress had begun using the “Mirror Method.”
The “Mirror Method,” as the viral post claimed, involves reflecting the attitude being cast upon oneself even from peers and supposed loved ones.
The post stated that Nadine allegedly said:
“‘Di ka nila binati nung birthday mo? Don’t greet them also. ‘Di ka nila inaya sa gala, ‘wag mo din silang yayain. ‘Di ka nila chin-check? STOP checking on them too. Just give them the same energy they’re giving to you. Trust me, life feels light when you do this.”
In reposting the quote card, Nadine pointed out she never said such a statement. A few hours later, Nadine wrote on her Facebook account her take on the matter.
“I honestly don’t believe in mirroring coldness just because someone chose to forget, ignore, or not show up. Para sa akin, hindi mo kailangang suklian ang kakulangan ng iba,” Nadine said. “Mas mahalaga pa rin na piliin mong maging mabuti, kahit walang kapalit. Because kindness isn’t for them, it’s for YOUR soul.”
If one is hurt by another person to a point where speaking terms is no longer possible, Nadine advised wishing them well but offered the possibility of cutting people off.
“You can walk away without carrying heaviness in your heart. It’s not resentment that sets you free. It’s the quiet, steady peace of knowing you’ve already forgiven them, even if they never asked,” Nadine continued. “You let go not because they deserve it, but because YOU deserve peace.”
“Take care of your soul, not your ego. Remember, hindi yung kapwa mo yung nagkkeep tabs, it’s the universe. So keep choosing light. Keep choosing love. That’s where true healing lives,” Nadine ended, even closing with a portion from the debunked social card — “Trust me, life is so much better when you do this.”
