MANILA, Philippines — Inspired by the tremendous success of its inaugural gala back in 2023, the I Want to Share Foundation (IWTS) has decided to build on its momentum this year by staging its second gala night this August.

“An Evening of Brave Warriors” is a fundraising activity for the benefit of pediatric cancer patients. It was held last August 1 in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Of all cancer patients, children draw the most attention and pull the deepest emotional strings in people because, for one, their condition is not the result of their own negligence, abuse, or unhealthy diet/lifestyle. Most people do not even know where it came from, what caused it, and why they are being deprived of a normal childhood and being subject to painful treatments and procedures instead. There is also the financial burden that weighs down on their parents.

Thus, IWTS is rising up to the challenge. Founded in 2013, it has been helping pediatric cancer patients from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). It has provided funding for their chemotherapy sessions, medicines, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) tests, consultations with doctors abroad, and other medical expenses. The institution does this by raising funds for them by way of fundraising activities, such as the recent gala night.

Presented by the Belo Medical Group, the gala night is aimed at raising millions, just like the inaugural Gala in 2023 did, with all its proceeds eyed at directly funding critical medical needs and cancer care initiatives.

These initiatives include building Phase 2 of the Bone Marrow Transplant Wing, procurement of Mindray BeneFusion/UVP Infusion Pumps, providing support for the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Department and long-term survivorship programs, and mounting campaigns to raise awareness for early detection and survival of childhood cancer.

The gala featured a fashion show by young cancer survivors, showcasing creations by celebrated Filipino designers Ivar Aseron, Michael Leyva, Francis Libiran, and Dennis Lustico. A charity art auction featuring works by renowned artists, such as Ramon Orlina, Elmer Borlongan, Manny Garibay, Daniel dela Cruz, Jigger Cruz, Jinggoy Buensuceso, and Yeo Kaa, was also held. Luxury raffle draws have likewise been added into the schedule.
