MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said the transmission test conducted in Tawi-Tawi province on Friday was a success.

“The Comelec successfully transmitted the election results (ERs) and logs from the remote island municipalities of Simunul and Bongao in Tawi-Tawi to the consolidated canvassing system (CCS) and servers,” the Comelec said in a statement.

During the pilot transmission test, both the automated counting machines (ACMs) in Simunul and Bongao towns successfully transmitted the ERs and logs to the Simunul CCS and Bongao CCS.

It also transmitted to the six servers at the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila.

The exercise was demonstrated during the Voter Education Seminar in Bongao and Simunul in preparation for the 2025 midterm elections and Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections.

Registered voters from both towns participated in the ACM demonstration, which also tested the FASTrAC or Full Automation System with Transparency Audit/Count project.

Aside from the transmissions to the CCS and the servers, the results of the mock exercise among registered voters were also sent from the Municipal Board of Canvassers to the central server, dominant minority party, dominant majority party, media server, citizens’ arm server 1 (Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting), and citizens’ arm server 2 (National Movement for Free Elections).

FASTrAC was awarded to the Joint Venture of Miru Systems.

The project includes the provision of 110,000 ACM units along with peripherals, consumables and technical support for the May 2025 elections.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia, who led the demonstration, said the purpose of the activity is also “to check if there are still adjustments to be made by Miru and IOne (on the technology they will be providing).”

IOne Resources-Ardent Network won the public bidding for the Secure Electronic Transmission Services or SETS project.
