Kapuso actor Dennis Trillo earned the ire of Kapamilya fans after they interpreted a response from his Tiktok account as a swipe at ABS-CBN. The incident started when a fan questioned Jennylyn Mercado’s absence from GMA Network’s new station ID and speculated that this absence could mean a network transfer. The netizen commented in his Tiktok account “Brother Dennis, I hope you can answer why ma’am Jen is not on GMA STATION ID and is it true that she is moving to ABC CBN?” Trillo respond to the netizen, “May ABS pa ba? (Is there still ABS?)” This response sparked backlash from ABS-CBN supporters, who found the comment insensitive.

One of the netizens also commented that Mercado has a collaboration in ABS-CBN music company Star Music. “Ang kapal magtanong kung may ABS pa ba, kahit alam niyang may gagawin ang asawa niya sa Star Music (The nerve to ask if there is still ABS, even though he knows his wife has an upcoming collaboration with Star Music),” a netizen wrote.

To which Trillo replied originally in Filipino, “ABS is different from Star Music sister, think before commenting.” Trillo and the netizen continued to exchange comments until Trillo alluded that it’s his account and he can write what he wants.

The backlash spread on social media where netizens vented their anger against the actor.

In response to the ongoing controvery, Trillo’s agency, Aguila Entertainment, issued a statement on “X (formerly Twitter) saying that the actor’s Tiktok account was hacked. “We would like to inform the public that Dennis Trillo’s TikTok account was hacked around noontime today, July 1, 2024. Several comments were made using his name, and we assure everyone that these remarks did not come from Dennis. He is known for his kindness and respect, and these comments are out of character for him. We are currently addressing the issue to prevent it from happening again. Thank you.” The agency emphasized that the comments were not reflective of Trillo’s character, describing him as a person of kindness and respect.
