“Mallari,” “Gomburza” and “About Us But Not About Us” were not the only big winners at the 7th edition of The Entertainment Editors’ Choice or The Eddys on Sunday night. With the Ceremonial Hall of Marriott’s Grand Ballroom brimming with actors, directors and other film industry stakeholders all celebrating what is considered the biggest year for local movies since the pandemic, Philippine cinema was definitely the biggest champion of the night.
The Piolo Pascual-led Mallari won five recognitions, including Best Actor Award for Pascual while Gomburza won two awards including Best Supporting Actor for Enchong Dee.
About Us But Not About Us won four awards including Best Director and Best Film.
Among the highlights of the night was the recognition of “Box Office Heroes” — the stars of five blockbuster movies in 2023 that brought the audience back to the cinema.
In full force was husband-and-wife tandem of Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes whose Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “Rewind,” earned P1-billion in the box-office, making it the biggest Filipino movie of all time.
Julia Montes — who later won the Best Actress award — was also present to receive the award for “Five Breakups and A Romance.” His leading man and co-awardee Alden Richards was unable to join her.
