Palawan has been voted again as one of the world’s best islands!
Palawan ranked 13th on the 25 Best Islands to Visit Around the World list by Travel + Leisure, based on the travel magazine’s latest World’s Best Awards survey under the “Islands” category.
Palawan garnered a reader score of 90.59 and was the lone Philippine island on the list.
The island was hailed for its peerless natural beauty, namely its limestone cliffs, lagoons, and lush rain forests.
“Travelers can explore preserves such as the Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, and learn about cultural practices from Indigenous communities like the Batak and Tagbanua tribes,” said Travel + Leisure.
The top five islands on the list are Maldives in the Indian Ocean (95.63); Phu Quoc, Vietnam (94.41); Bali, Indonesia (93.26); Milos, Greece (93.08); and Dominica (92.47).
Palawan has consecutively been voted among the best islands in the world by the readers of Travel + Leisure, from 2017 to 2022.
In 2020, Palawan bagged the No. 1 spot on Travel + Leisure’s Top 25 Islands in the World list with a score of 94.83.
Last year, the island was not included in Travel + Leisure’s Favorite Islands in the World list, although Boracay Island came through, ranking 10th with a score of 92.94.
Last month, Palawan and Boracay made it to the Best Islands list of Travel + Leisure’s Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2024.
In January this year, Palawan also ranked fourth in Tripadvisor’s most trending destinations of 2024.
Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards survey is an annual survey where readers of the travel magazine are asked to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe.
For the islands category, the islands were rated based on the following criteria: natural attractions/beaches, activities/sights, restaurants/food, people/friendliness, and value.
Aside from voting on islands, readers also vote on the best hotels, resorts, cities, spas, airlines, and more.
More than 186,000 Travel + Leisure readers completed the 2024 survey, with a total of over 700,000 votes cast across more than 8,700 properties.
