Parts of Mindanao experienced flooding and landslides as a result of heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
In Malabang, Lanao del Sur, residents helped remove a car from the floodwaters, GMA Regional TV’s Sarah Hilomen Velasco said in a ”24 Oras Weekend” report on Saturday.
At least two people died and two were missing due to the inclement weather, which affected more than 5,000 families, according to the Lanao del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
In Sarangani Province, water from the mountain flowed to highways in Maitum town, and waist-deep floods were recorded in Kiamba.
In Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, one road became impassable due to a landslide. Clearing operations were ongoing.
Meanwhile, residents in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat, have created a makeshift bridge to temporarily replace a collapsed bridge.
PAGASA’s daily weather forecast on Saturday afternoon predicted that the Southwest Monsoon would continue to affect the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Habagat is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the rest of MIMAROPA, Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
