THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy more than a thousand personnel to assist in traffic management for the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, July 22.
“MMDA will deploy 1,329 personnel from the traffic management, parking management, road emergency responders, clearing, cleaning groups, as well as our technical teams,” said Traffic Operations Officer Manny Miro during a news forum on Saturday.
Miro said MMDA personnel would also conduct road and sidewalk clearing and monitor traffic on highways leading to the Batasan Pambansa Complex in anticipation of heavy vehicular traffic for the day.
“That’s always the case. We have heavy traffic around the area, especially around 3 o’clock. Because most of the time, we have a ‘stop and go’ when our VIPs pass by,” he said.
Road closures, on the other hand, will be determined by those assigned to secure the area, Miro pointed out.
“The road closures will be determined by the security side. Once we get a field report that there are people gathering in one place that will disrupt traffic, our security shuts it down,” he said.
“So, at the moment, we don’t have road closures,” Miro added.
Earlier, the Philippine National Police said it would deploy 22,000 police personnel during the SONA. A nationwide gun ban will also be imposed on that day.
