THE Federation of Free Workers (FFW) commended the Supreme Court’s decision ordering the regularization of two delivery riders, who were categorized by e-commerce platform Lazada as independent contractors.

On April 3, the high court’s second division, through Associate Justice Jhosep Lopez, granted the review on certiorari filed by delivery riders Walter Borromeo and Jimmy Parcia against Lazada, citing their dismissal as illegal.

The Court ordered the company to reinstate the two workers with back wages and benefits.

“This Borromeo and Parcia vs. E-Lazada case tells us that workers’ rights to fair treatment, the right to organize unions, and security of tenure are not merely embellishments in the Constitution or wallpaper designs to be ignored and trampled upon,” FFW President Sonny Matula said.
