SERAFINA Zafaralla Tolentino, a retired Head Teacher 3 and for years an active officer of the Senior Citizens Organization of Pinili, Ilocos Norte, died in her hometown on Friday, the family announced. She was 92.
Tolentino, who retired as a public school teacher in 1931, would have been 93 on Sept. 9, a year away from the time her husband, a retired Master Teacher 2 and college classmate at the Northern Luzon Teachers College in Laoag City, himself died, aged 92.
They got married in 1960 immediately after graduation.
They have five children: Jocelyn (+); Maria Victoria (+) [husband Bruce Metcalf]; Eduardo [wife Grace], an engineer based in Carcar City, Cebu; Amador Jr. [wife Beng Salomon, an AVP at BPI Makati], lawyer and senior partner of the Law Firm Tolentino Corvera Macasaet and Reig in Metro Manila; and Leilani, president of Amasera Holdings Inc.
They have nine grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
Serafina, active in community activities in her hometown, co-founded the Upon Young Farmers Organization of her barangay in the 1950s, a group of farmers and young professionals in the basically agricultural barangay rich in rice as well as poultry, fruits and vegetables.
Tolentino is the maternal first cousin of Honor Blanco Cabie, opinion editor of the English language broadsheet Manila Standard.
