The Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert was sent home after striking his teammate Kyle Anderson while they were playing a crucial game against the New Orleans Pelicans.
The now-viral incident happened Sunday during the second quarter of their final regular season game and has quickly made the rounds on social media. It’s unclear what the pair clashed over.
The heated exchange happened as head coach Chris Finch was addressing the team. Gobert, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, suddenly threw a punch toward Anderson’s chest area.
Fellow teammates quickly stepped in to break up the confrontation.
Gobert was then escorted back to the locker room before the Timberwolves sent him home for the remainder of the game. It’s unclear whether the center will be further penalized over the incident.
Anderson was not seriously injured and remained in the game.
Twitter users wasted no time reacting over the squabble.
Later in the game, Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels was spotted punching a wall and was also ruled out for the rest of the game.
Minnesota’s Sunday win leaves them with a 42-40 record. Next up, the team will travel to Los Angeles to play the Lakers (43-39) on Tuesday night.
