Thomas Hand was initially told his eight-year-old daughter Emily had been murdered along with his ex-wife in the Hamas attack on Kibbutz Be’eri.
But the family has now been informed she may be alive and being held hostage in Gaza.
Speaking soon after the attacks, Mr Hand said he was relieved to have learned that Emily was dead as it meant “she wasn’t going to be in any more pain or stress”.
But on Monday he told the BBC’s Clive Myrie that he in some ways regretted those comments and was now holding on to the hope of seeing his daughter again.
