MANILA, Philippines — The highly anticipated sequel to one of the Philippines’ most beloved films, “Hello, Love, Again,” is creating quite the buzz in Calgary. Directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana, the film has drawn crowds of eager fans to its shooting locations.

“Hello, Love, Again” is a follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” which held the distinction of being the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time until it was surpassed by “Rewind” in January 2024. The sequel stars Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards, reprising their roles as Joy and Ethan, alongside supporting cast members Joross Gamboa, Jeffrey Tam, and Kakai Bautista.

The sequel shifts its setting to Canada, with a storyline that continues to explore the challenges and triumphs of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). The film’s teaser trailer, which shows Bernardo’s character gazing at Canada’s snowy mountains, has piqued the interest of fans.

In an interview with CBC News that was uploaded on YouTube, Garcia-Sampana expressed her amazement at the overwhelming support from fans, who have been flocking to the film’s set since production began in Calgary.

“I love the love they gave us and how I wish I could give them what they want,” Garcia-Sampana said.

She acknowledged the difficulties of managing large crowds while maintaining the integrity of the shoot.

A video clip captured the director addressing fans behind the camera, saying, “We take pictures in an orderly manner without ruining our set.” Bernardo, who has captured the hearts of millions with her portrayal of Joy, a young Filipino woman pursuing her dreams in Canada, shared her thoughts on the significance of the film’s setting.

“I’m like representing this girl who has a lot of dreams, who wants to be more, and I think Canada is the perfect place for that,” Bernardo said.

Richards, who plays Ethan, also commented on the fans’ dedication.

“We understand the excitement that they have to see us. And you know, as much as possible we do the best we can to accommodate them whenever they go to the locations,” Richards said.

The enthusiasm of the Filipino community in Calgary, which boasts a significant population, has played a crucial role in the warm reception afforded the film’s cast and crew.

Vangie Caoile, a local Filipino resident and Fiesta Filipino founder, noted the film’s resonance with the community, stating, “I think the story is very endearing because it tells the story of every individual who came to Canada and found a better life.” It was on May 19, 2024 when Deadline Hollywood confirmed that Star Cinema and GMA Pictures will be collaborating together on developing the film.

With its release date set for November 13, fans around the world eagerly await the next chapter in Joy and Ethan’s journey.
