A CRITICAL global need for billions of dollars for emergency disaster response and rescue is on track to be realized with the launch of the radical $10-billion Project Rescue Disaster Relief Unification Fund.

The unprecedented “mega fund” has been backed by international Australian firm Public Safety Training and Response Group, which also has response operations in the United Kingdom and the United States of America — within eight hours response time for disasters anywhere on the planet.

According to a spokesman from the organization, Project Rescue will be a “smart, forward-looking solution… that will transform emergency response.” The group’s report noted that currently, government and nongovernment organizations (NGOs) are “increasingly stretched,” making response funding “inconsistent for years.”

One reason for this is the fivefold increase of reported natural disasters in the past 50 years. The report noted that these calamities today “cost the global economy upwards of $400 billion annually.”
