BOEING sent a contract offer on Tuesday to union members who assemble its fighter jets in the St. Louis area.
The company’s proposal includes a 20-percent general wage increase over four years and a $5,000 ratification bonus, as well as more vacation time and sick leave.
Local union leaders are recommending that the more than 3,200 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 837 approve the contract when they vote on Sunday, the day it expires.
Boeing’s defense division is expanding manufacturing facilities in the St. Louis area for the new US Air Forcefighter, the F-47, after it won the contract earlier this year.
The company is expected to expand its workforce in the coming years, as well.
Also on Tuesday, The Seattle Times reported Boeing has kicked off production of its newest freight carrier, the 777-8.
The aircraft, which has a revenue payload of 112.3 tons, was first announced in 2022 at the White House.
Boeing had then said that Qatar Airways would be the first customer, with an order for 34 jets and options for 16 more, and a total purchase price of $20 billion.
While Boeing originally said they expect to deliver the first aircraft in 2027, the timeline has been delayed by a year, the report said.
The 777-8 freighter has the lowest operating costs per ton, most fuel efficiency and the lowest carbon dioxide emissions among the 777X family of aircraft, according to Boeing’s website.
