MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) officially kicked off its 51st edition Tuesday with a grand launch at Glorietta, Makati City, revealing the first four entries in this year’s lineup.

Hosted by Enchong Dee and KaladKaren, the launch introduced the theme for MMFF 2025: “A New Era for Philippine Cinema.”

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes explained the choice of theme, “This reflects our goal to embrace change, expand the reach of our festival, and further strengthen our support for Filipino films. We are promoting the art of cinema as an essential part of our nation’s culture and identity.”

“Call Me Mother,” starring Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre, directed by Jun Robles Lana

“Reconnect,” featuring Gerald Anderson, Carmina Villarroel, Zoren Legaspi, Gloria Diaz, and Alexa Miro, directed by Jade Castro

“Manila’s Finest,” top-billed by Piolo Pascual and directed by Rae Red

“Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins,” with a large ensemble cast including Ivana Alawi, Fyang Smith, Ashley Ortega, Ysabel Ortega, Carla Abellana, Kaila Estrada, JM Ibarra, Seth Fedelin, Francine Diaz, and Dustin Yu , helmed by Shugo Praico, Joey de Guzman, and Ian Loreños

A special highlight of the event was the presentation of commemorative MMFF stamps from PhilPost, given to last year’s 10 official entries of the 50th MMFF.

Celebrity guests at the launch included “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition” alumni Brent Manalo, Ralph de Leon, Esnyr Ranollo, and River Joseph.

The second batch of official MMFF entries will be revealed on September 30. Key festival events include the Parade of the Stars on December 19, the official screening start on December 25, and the Gabi ng Parangal awards night on December 27.
