Food for the Gods

Ingredients:

2 cups (240 grams) Magnolia All Purpose Flour  

2 tsps. (8 grams) Bake Best Baking Powder

1/2 tsp. (2.5 grams) iodized fine salt

1-1/2 cups (282 grams) pitted dates, chopped

1-1/2 cups (195 grams) walnuts, coarsely chopped

1-1/2 cups Magnolia Gold Butter Salted, melted, plus extra for greasing pan

2 cups (426 grams) packed brown sugar

1 tsp. (4 grams) vanilla extract

5 (250 grams) Magnolia Brown Eggs

Procedure:

1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking pan (12”x16”) with baking paper or foil. Grease and set aside.

2. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

3. Add chopped dates and walnuts into a bowl. Set aside.

4. Combine melted butter, brown sugar and vanilla extract.

5. Add in eggs one at a time.

6. Fold in flour and nuts mixture.

7. Pour mixture into prepared baking pan and bake for 25 to 35 minutes or until golden brown. Slice when cool.

Makes 24 pieces. 

*Tip: Use prunes, raisins and apricots as substitute for dates.
