Leyte Rep. House Speaker Martin Romualdez retained his leadership of the lower chamber in the 20th Congress after no one challenged his nomination.

Days prior to the reopening of their first regular session, Romualdez went unstoppable in securing the commitment of his allies to continue working on the legislative agenda of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

Quezon 2nd District Rep. David ‘Jayjay’ Suarez nominated Romualdez, citing his “commitment to good governance.”

Presidential son and Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander ‘Sandro’ Marcos seconded his nomination along with Quezon 1st District Rep. Mark Enverga and other lawmakers.

Romualdez’s supporters earlier underscored that the growing number of lawmakers signing on to the manifesto reflects broad confidence in Romualdez’s capacity to lead, especially at a time when the House of Representatives must hit the ground running for the next half of the Marcos administration.

They added the speakership contest should center not on personalities but on vision, competence and delivery, all of which they said Romualdez consistently demonstrated as Speaker of the 19th Congress.
