For the KathNiel supporters, November 30, 2023 was the fall of a great fandom as Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla — a real-life couple of 11 years — separately announced their breakup on social media.
Neither of them cited the reason/s behind it, thus leaving people close to them and their fans alike in a quandary.
Nor did anyone from either side give a slightest hint what caused the proverbial cookie to crumble.
The public couldn’t help but expect at least a “lead” to emanate from Karla Estrada — she being from the same volatile world as her son who’s used to it after all.
Much to everyone’s surprise (if not frustration), Karla had barely anything to say to set the record straight during her appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.” It was Karla’s supposedly first time ever to talk about the issue.
“I let them be the ones to resolve the issue between themselves,” the former TV host confessed.
No parent wouldn’t feel despondent over the turn of events for KathNiel. In her heart of hearts, Karla was as much crushed, if not even more.
Living through that phase, Boy asked Karla which proved to be the most trying, difficult time.
Not one to sugarcoat her reply, Karla pointed to the hurtful words thrown at Daniel: “‘Yun ‘yong mga salitang mahirap kainin (words which were hard to ingest) plus the fact na may kabastusan na (as they were uncouth)!”
In her words, what Daniel had to parry had an almost lethal effect on her: “It nearly killed me!”
Karla though understood the whole scenario where her son was pictured to be the sole party at fault, ergo, rightfully deserving of all the blame.
The KathNiel falling out had Daniel at the receiving end — blame it on reports of his alleged infidelity.
Daniel was also said to have hit on Andrea Brillantes, or the other way around. But none of these was proven true.
Like a spectator privileged to get a ringside view of the game, Karla was well aware of this. She merely observed and chose to reserve her thoughts until the right time came.
To be fair and just with her son, the least Karla expressed on the show was: “Nobody’s perfect. But I sincerely hope that DJ (Daniel’s pet name) has learned valuable lessons from whatever mistakes he may have committed.”
Albeit Karla would rather not dwell on her son’s grim past, here’s one good news for the loyal fans of Daniel: “I believe Daniel is much more okay now!”
Could the Kapamilya actor have totally relegated Kathryn to his memory bin?
