Barbie Forteza

Radiant on the red carpet, Barbie Forteza showed up at her movie premiere Monday night just as strikingly as she does on screen in the gripping new psychological thriller “P77” from GMA Pictures. Her performance is grounded, deliberate, and quietly intense, you simply can’t take your eyes off her.

In The Manila Time’s last interview, Forteza said, “I want to be respected not as a celebrity, but as an actor.

In “P77,” she makes good on that intention. For as the film’s fast-paced shifts between reality and horror blur the lines of the narrative, Forteza moves through every moment with conviction.

But beyond the scares, she believes the film, which opens in nationwide theaters today, resonates because it’s ultimately about love — love for family, and for siblings.

“It’s a story about the eldest child,” Forteza said before the lights went down at SM The Block’s Director’s Club Cinema. “There’s this unspoken expectation that we’re the ones who have to keep the family together. Breadwinners like myself will definitely relate to it.”

“P77” may be indeed be a horror film, but this truly gifted and devoted actress is right to say that it’s one that speaks to everyone. And as in life, it’s her quiet strength and clarity that anchor the story from beginning to end.
