The thrilling part, as in kilig, about receiving a manna from showbiz heaven is that it lands in one’s lap unceremoniously. It’s a blessing that remotely crosses the mind.

Rise Artists Studio and Star Magic talent JC Alcantara can attest to that when he and his team learned that the young actor was part of the GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs film, “P77.” The latter is now showing in local cinemas.

“Hindi namin i-ni-expect. Nagulat kami… parang bakit ako yung nakuha, diba? (we never expected it, and we were all surprised… I was, like, asking myself, ‘Why was I chosen?,’” said JC in a brief chat with The STAR. “There are a lot of talents from GMA and ABS that could be possibly considered at magaling talaga (and who are better than I am).”

At this point, knowing the whys is no longer relevant, but one thing is clear: the son character named Theo of the inhabitants of P77 or Penthouse 77 was meant for him.

JC looked back that he had been manifesting things such as projects he wanted to try in the near future before the good news came.

And “P77” was the outcome of that visualization.

“I consider it a blessing. Siguro yung pinag-pray ko na yun, binigay ni Lord sa akin (maybe it’s what I had been praying for and the Lord granted it),” shared he.

“Sobrang overwhelmed ako (I felt very overwhelmed),” JC went on. “Ang sarap sa feeling (it felt good). Naiyak nga ako after (I cried after), na parang na-re-recognize na ako (that I was recognized). Ang sarap sa pakiramdam na pati GMA kinukuha na rin ako (the feeling was good because GMA noticed and tapped me for it).

Since he’s a fan of the horror genre, JC welcomed the idea of starring in “P77,” described as a psychological horror.

“Gusto ko yung nananakot ako sa mga kaibigan ko (I like scaring my friends),” said he, who has almost binge-watched all the horror and zombie-themed content on Netflix. “Tinatakot ko sila kapag nanonood kami (I would do that every time we watch).”

With that, JC has the basic know-how if ever his character in “P77” is part of the scary and mysterious entities.

“Pinaghandaan ko siya… nag-workshop akong mag-isa (I prepared for the role and did my own ‘workshop,’” recalled he, asking friends for their thoughts and feedback on his scary approach.

To know exactly his character and role, JC lets the public discover it by trooping to the theaters.

“Mahirap kasi kailangan mong i-feel talaga yung nasa paligid (it’s tough because you need to feel things in your surrounding),” said he of how an actor puts across such a human emotion. “Kailangan mong i-feel yung takot (you have to feel the fear). Kailangan matakot ka, eh (you need to be scared).”

JC’s character plays the love interest of Barbie Forteza’s Luna, the cruise ship chambermaid and cleaner, who, with his brother, played by Euwenn Mikaell, reaches the abode of JC’s character and works there. Eerie things and experiences as well as twists and turns, are about to unfold.

Also part of the film are Jackielou Blanco, Chrome Cosio, Gina Pareño, Carlos Siguion-Reyna and Rosanna Roces.

As for what’s next for him after “P77,” JC said, “I think I have an upcoming (content) perhaps on Netflix, but we taped it last year… It’s a movie.”

As a quick look at his showbiz career, JC commenced it by starring in the BL series, “Hello, Stranger,” and carried on to pursue acting. He also tried his hand at recording with the singles such as Please Na Miss Kita and Lumala o Mawala.

As an actor, JC aspires to become a versatile one.

“Ito yung gusto ko, eh (acting is what I want to do),” said he. “Mahal ko ang ginagawa ko. Ayoko siyang pabayaan (I love what I’m doing and I don’t want to neglect it). Gusto ko pang mag-improve (I want to further improve myself)… Madami akong gusto, marami akong pangarap (I have many things and dreams to pursue). Gusto ko ding ibahagi ang talento ko sa iba at gusto kong makapag-inspire (I also want to share my talent and inspire others).”
