MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-Canadian Hollywood actor Manny Jacinto (“The Acolyte,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “The Good Place”) is heading to Manila for Disney’s “Freakier Friday” world tour.

He is set to have a special appearance at the exclusive red carpet premiere on Aug. 5 at the SM Mall of Asia Main Atrium, a day before the film’s local release on Aug. 6.

“Freakier Friday” reunites Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan some two decades after the Disney fantasy-comedy film “Freaky Friday” (2003), which went on to become a box-office hit at the time of its release in 2003 for earning over $160 million worldwide against a production cost of $26 million.

Curtis and Lohan are reprising their roles as the mother and daughter Tess and Anna Coleman in a sequel that follows their lives years after the original identity-swap chaos. Now navigating blended family life, the two face another unexpected twist.

Jacinto plays Eric Davies, Anna’s new fiancé who is father to Lily (Sophia Hammons) and soon-to-be stepfather to Harper Coleman (Julia Butters), Anna’s daughter and Tess’ granddaughter.

During a previous interview with The Philippine STAR’s Nathalie Tomada about his Disney+ series, “The Acolyte,” Jacinto spoke about seeing increased diversity and more representation in Hollywood: “Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I think what it comes down to is just having more and more creatives, not just in front of the screen, but behind the screen as well. Like I am seeing or keeping an eye on Filipino directors and Filipino writers all the time and, possibly, hopefully, fingers crossed, getting to collaborate with them, because I can only do so much as an actor, but there’s so much potential.

“It gets frustrating at times because obviously, there’s not a lot out there right now, but that just means that there’s so much more to be told, and it’s exciting. I think now is the time to be able to do that and to tell those stories,” he then said.

Meanwhile, “Freakier Friday,” is directed by Nisha Ganatra and based on the book Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers. It also stars Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and more.

The Manila event is presented by Globe, SM Mall of Asia and SM Cinema. Check out @disneystudiosph (Instagram), @WaltDisneyStudiosPH (Facebook) and @DisneyStudiosPH (X, formerly Twitter) for details.
