Filipino-Italian actor, director and producer Ruben Maria Soriquez says 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year, with long-awaited Hollywood opportunities finally falling into place.

The Filipino-Italian actor is set to appear in Donald Petrie’s upcoming film ‘The Last Resort’ alongside Daisy Ridley and Sam Neill.

“This year, I’m happy with the people I’ve worked with,” he said, referring to his latest role in “The Last Resort,” a romantic comedy directed by Donald Petrie. “I got a good role, and all my scenes were with ‘Star Wars’ actress Daisy Ridley. For me, this is like a dream come true.”

While Soriquez previously appeared in international productions — including a role as one of the villains in “General Commander” alongside Steven Seagal — he feels his current projects offer more substance.

“’General Commander’ was distributed by Lionsgate, but ‘The Last Resort’ is my biggest project so far because of the stellar cast, including Sam Neill from the first ‘Jurassic Park,’” he said. “I still can’t believe I’m part of it.”

He also recalled being tapped in 2019 by Oscar-winning producer Mark Gordon to play the antagonist opposite Chris Pratt in the project “Cowboy Viking Ninja,” which unfortunately never moved forward due to the pandemic.

“Anyway, I’m confident more opportunities like that will come,” he added.

In “The Last Resort,” Soriquez plays Signor Rossi, though he declined to share further details due to a nondisclosure agreement. The film also stars Alden Ehrenreich, Tia Carrere and Sam Neill, with a script by Karen McCullah.

Beyond acting, Soriquez is currently involved as a development producer and writer on an upcoming US television series created by Virginia Travers. “It’s a sci-fi project, and we’re currently in the funding stage. The US TV market is tough, and it’s not easy to catch the attention of major platforms like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon,” he said.

Soriquez is also celebrating the international distribution of “The Mariana’s Web,” in which he plays the lead opposite Alexa Ocampo. The film is being handled by US distributor Cardinal XD.

“In ‘The Mariana’s Web,’ I play a lone Italian farmer who meets the woman of his dreams online,” he said. Directed by Marco Calvise and shot in both Italy and the Philippines, the horror-sci-fi film, according to Soriquez, gives off “Black Mirror” vibes. “The cast is mainly Italian, but Alexa is my co-star. The film is set for theatrical release in several countries, and we’re negotiating US streaming rights.”

He shared that his return to acting came after a two-year break to focus on his debut album.

“Before I finished ‘The Mariana’s Web’ and ‘The Immortal Hunters’ this 2025 — the second is already streaming in the US — my last film was ‘Pandemiocracy’ in 2021,” he said. “In 2022 and 2023, I focused on making music. Now I’m working on a second album, but I’m also juggling other film projects.”

Though currently focused on acting, Soriquez admits he’s drawn back to directing.

“I have a few projects in mind, including documentary films. I also want to direct and star in an action movie. I already have a finished script, so let’s see where it goes,” Soriquez said.

Following his role in “The Last Resort,” Soriquez signed with a new agent for the European market, a move he hopes will further elevate his acting career abroad.

Looking back, he said, “I’ve reached every goal I’ve set for myself. Now, ‘come what may’ is my motto.”

These days, he finds himself prioritizing something else entirely — his family.

“I have four talented children, and I want to help nurture their gifts. My youngest daughter is only three, but she’s already showing signs of talent in singing and acting. She even looked like Liza Soberano when she was a kid.”

As more doors open in Hollywood and beyond, Ruben Soriquez is choosing to walk through them at his own pace — grateful, grounded, and always with his children at heart.
