MANILA, Philippines — The local unit of Japanese cement manufacturer Taiheiyo Cement Corp. is on course to finish its P3.72-billion Luzon Distribution Terminal in Batangas by the second quarter of 2026.
In a statement, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI)’s project located in Calaca is expected to help meet the growing demand for cement in Luzon.
It will also expand the distribution of blended cement, which reduces carbon emissions through the use of recycled materials like fly ash and slag.
The Luzon distribution terminal forms part of Taiheiyo’s P21-billion multi-phase investment program in the Philippines.
“Taiheiyo’s contributions go beyond production, as this project exemplifies the type of investment that Bagong Pilipinas champions: one that creates jobs, drives innovation and supports our sustainability goals,” Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said.
In July last year, TCPI inaugurated its P12.8-billion plant in Cebu.
The Cebu plant has an annual production capacity of three million tons.
Beyond investments and jobs, Taiheiyo also supports the government’s infrastructure push.
“As infrastructure continues to be a pillar of national growth, industry leaders like Taiheiyo will be at the forefront of helping us meet both current and future demand,” DTI commercial counselor Dita Angara-Mathay said.
Taiheiyo Cement Corp. is the leading cement firm in Japan. It has a 40-percent domestic market share and approximately 13,000 employees globally.
In the Philippines, the company has a long-term commitment to support the country’s infrastructure development and industrial growth.
