There are many ways to approach wellness, with options varying based on personal choices. While there’s rarely a quick fix, natural, time-tested methods often prove safest — though not the fastest. In the end, it’s up to you to choose how to address common health concerns. Here’s some of the main ones.

Still trying your utmost to shed those last five pounds? It is always the last few pounds that tend to hold on to you, right?

Ideally, weight management should be a lifetime of good habits. Scrutinize your daily habits and see if they contribute to your weight loss or gain. Sounds fairly simple but not so easy to implement.

Begin with awareness. Being mindful of your actions puts you in control. When awareness meets intention, success often follows.

Low carbohydrate/sugar diet. Cutting back on carbs and sugar is one of the fastest ways to lose up to three pounds per week. Start by halving your usual portions and adding more fiber-rich vegetables. For sweets, limit yourself to small portions — half a slice of cake or a small scoop of ice cream. Prefer fruit instead, but avoid high-glycemic ones like bananas, mangoes, pineapples, watermelon, and raisins, especially if you’re diabetic or pre-diabetic. And skip sweets at night — sugar not burned through activity turns to fat.

Gut health. A healthy gut contribute to more efficient digestion. A daily probiotic supplement taken with meals can help. Many health stores offer good options.

Practice moderation. The Mediterranean and Adventist diets are globally praised for a reason — they focus on balance. Certain people get enticed to eat more because they are led by their taste buds. How about eating to be healthy while still enjoying the textures and flavors of food? From now on, when you stand before a buffet, ask yourself this question, “Is this good for me or not?”

Weight loss medications. If you’re considering injections or other medications, consult your doctor. These treatments must be medically supervised. Do not, at any time, experiment with your body. Many users report positive results — especially when paired with healthy habits — but they are under close medical guidance.

Intermittent fasting (IF). Effective for some, but not for everyone. Always consult your doctor before trying it. While IF can help with weight loss, prolonged fasting may dull your hunger cues — a concerning side effect. Should you experience dizziness or pass out due to hypoglycemia, stop immediately.

Exercise and diet. This combination, by far, is the best. Choose a diet that suits your lifestyle. Then, sign up in a gym and work with your trainer to determine your fitness strategies.

Cardio exercises with flexibility and stretching routines work well together in order to give you a well-rounded program. Discipline and consistency are key.

Stay active. Sitting for too long leads to poor circulation. Keep your blood flowing. Continue to be active. If your job keeps you seated for too long, stand up every 20 minutes and walk around. Daily brisk walks are a great way to keep the blood flowing.

Affirmation for the week: “Today is a new day.”

Love and light.
