SAN JUAN, La Union – Comedienne Eugene Domingo is set for her return to the stage in Theatre Group Asia’s run of “Into the Woods” by Stephen Sondheim, her first full-on musical.

Eugene will play Jack’s Mother, the mom of the character who sells the family cow for some beans which grow into a beanstalk.

Like the fairytale it is based on, Jack’s Mother does not have a name in “Into the Woods,” that is until Philstar.com asked Eugene to give her one.

After quickly giving it some thought, Eugene landed on a name inspired by teleseryes – Aling Tasing.

Eugene explained the term Aling Tasing is used in television shows by characters to describe someone who cannot or may not understand something profound.

“Hoy, ‘di maintindihan ni Aling Tasing! Ayusin niyo, babaan niyo ng kaunti, ‘yung naiintindihan ni Aling Tasing,” Eugene said as an example, as if pulling from a series.

“Sino si Aling Tasing? Ewan ko, kapitbahay mo!” Eugene said, bantering with herself. “[Yung] parang, ‘Wag mo na pahirapan ang buhay,’ ‘Eh mahirap na nga ‘yung buhay namin oh!’”

Theatre Group Asia’s “Into the Woods” will run at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater this August for a limited time only.
