MANILA, Philippines — Comedienne-actress Eugene Domingo showered her “Into The Woods” co-star Lea Salonga with praises.
“Into The Woods” marks Eugene’s return to the stage after seven years and her first-ever full-on musical production.
During a press conference for the musical last July 31, Eugene admitted that many people idolize Lea because of her artistry but added Lea was also a great human being.
“Isa siyang tao na nagsasalita rin ng ‘di magandang mga words,” Eugene quipped.
Lea, who was seated beside her, said out loud, “Kadalasan!”
“Isa siyang tao na ma-marites din. Totoo ‘yun. Tao lang din siya,” Eugene continued. “Nagkataon lang na biniyayaan tayo ng isang Pilipina na kaya mong itapat sa buong mundo pagdating sa galing. Siya ‘yun.”

Eugene confessed that she gets starstruck by Lea each time they are together, commending her preparedness and perfection.
The comedian-actress recalled an incident where she thought she caught Lea making a mistake, only to realize that Lea was tearing up from a song she was practicing.
“Perfect talaga eh! Nakakainis!” Eugene exclaimed, adding that people should expect such “perfection” from Lea as The Witch in their upcoming show.
The comedienne even quipped that Lea was better than Bernadette Peters, who originated The Witch on Broadway. Eugene immediately followed her quip with an admission that she had never met the American actress and only knows of Bernadette Sembrano, a Filipino journalist.
Coincidentally, Lea and Bernadette performed together on the tribute revue “Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends,” which included songs from “Into The Woods.”
