SAN JUAN, La Union – “Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae and “The Glory” actress Lim Ji-yeon headline the cast of upcoming Korean romantic-comedy show “Nice to Not Meet You” on Prime Video.
Set in the world of show business, a typecast actor eager for better roles crosses paths with a celebrated political reporter who, while covering a corruption case, is now assigned to cover entertainment.
“What begins as a clash of personalities unfolds into a story full of charm, laughter, and unexpected chemistry,” teases the show’s synopsis.
Jung-jae will play the actor Lim Hyeon-jun entering the fifth season of a popular detective show but aspires to improve his career by starring in a melodrama or a rom-com.
Ji-yeon will portray reporter Wi Jeong-sin who is initially a fan of the said detective series but begins to dislike Jung-jae’s character upon learning how different he is in real life.
Kim Ga-ram, who helmed acclaimed shows “Nevertheless” and “Good Partner,” will direct the series on a script by “Doctor Cha” screenwriter Jung Yeo-rang.
Jung-jae debuted as an actor in the 1990s, making his breakthrough in the 1998 film “An Affair” after finishing his military service.
He slowly built his career in the 2000s and gained international recognition for starring in the hit Netflix show “Squid Game,” for which he became the first Asian to win the Emmy for Best Lead Actor-Drama and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor-Drama Series.
The recognition led to Jung-jae directing his debut film “Hunt” – which he also wrote, produced, and starred opposite Hyun Bin – and joining the “Star Wars” franchise as a lead in “The Acolyte” with Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto.
Ji-yeon appeared in several short films before her feature film debut “Obsessed” in 2014 and her series debut in “The Treacherous” with Ju Ji-hoon the following year.
She appeared in the Korean adaptation of “Money Heist” which she followed up with her biggest project to date, the villain role in “The Glory” opposite Song Hye-kyo for which she won Best Supporting Actress – Television at the 2023 Baeksang Arts Awards.
