Rice, pork prices down as of mid-July

RETAIL prices of rice and pork both dropped in the second phase of last month (July 15-17), according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Date showed regular milled rice sold for P41.28 per kilogram (kg), lower than the P41.57/kg in the first phase (July 1-5) and P42.53/kg in June 15-17.

Well-milled and special milled rice were also cheaper in the same period.

Fresh pork kasim (shoulder) retailed for P372.35/kg in mid-July, lower than the P374.89/kg in July 1-5 and the P374.22/kg in mid-June.

The respective costs of pork meat with bones, pork liempo (belly), dressed chicken, and chicken egg likewise declined in mid-July.

Price increases

Meanwhile, price increases were seen in beef meat and beef meat with bones.

This was also the case in galunggong, whose retail cost at P220/kg in mid-July was higher than the P216.01/kg in the first phase and the P219.62/kg in mid-June.

Carrots were likewise more expensive at P120.91/kg in July 15-17, compared to the P115.38/kg in July 1-5 and the P109.32/kg in June 15-17.

Red onions were priced higher, too, at P161.38/kg in mid-July, than the P156.02/kg in early July and P154.27/kg in mid-June.

However, calamansi was cheaper at P89.80/kg compared to its retail price of P92.37/kg in early July and P95.54/kg in mid-June.

On the other hand, cooking oil’s P182.72 per liter (L) cost in mid-July was a slight increase from its P182.16/L in early July and P181.46/L in mid-June.
